Tinder, the flirty dating application that has been used on college campuses and cities around the world, is adding a premium service in November. Tinder, “the fun way to connect with new and interesting people around you” is extending its services to let user connect to those who aren’t around them.
Tinder was launched a short two years ago, and has been hooking up countless amounts of couples ever since. Users can easily sign up using their Facebook (News - Alert) accounts, which connects users’ pictures and age. Once logged into the app, male or females pictures appear and users swipe right for “yes” and swipe left for “no thanks”. If two users match, that means they have both swiped right on each other’s pictures. The pictures that show up are of other people using Tinder in the same area. The simple, easy to use app has made it one of the most popular mobile platforms to meet people.
This free-dating mobile app has matched millions, and now its looking for a profit. Currently, the company has no revenue model, but Tinder’s CEO Sean Rad plans to change that coming November. At the Forbes under-30 event Rad revealed the new plans for Tinder. According to Rad, "We are adding features users have been begging us for”.
The premium feature, while no specifics were given by Rad, hints at the fact that it will focus on travel and can possibly help Tinder move into other markets besides dating. The new feature is rumored to no longer limit users to their current location, allowing users to expand their Tinder browsing to future locations. This premium feature could open up conversations for visitors to new cities or even countries, before they get there.
The new services will provide more than just the satisfaction of matching users. It is undisclosed how much the features will cost, but it will move Tinder into the direction of profit for the first time. “We had to get our product and growth right first,” says Rad. “Revenue has always been on the road map.”
