The release of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone (News - Alert) 6 plus has been met with quite a bit of excitement. As with most things Apple, there has also been a fair amount of handwringing and complaining over issues that may or may not be widespread. The latest concern is an apparent issue with the iPhone 6 especially, where the phone casing can actually bend if it is placed in someone’s pocket and they are sitting for a prolonged period of time.
While there are a number of new features being offered in the brand new, bigger and thinner phones, bending is not something that is actually supposed to happen. It should be pointed out that one of the major reports claiming the new iPhones were the most durable ever, didn’t include bending. It doesn’t appear that Apple (News - Alert) is the only company that has had reports of large screen phones bending when put under stress. Sony’s Xperia Z1 had users claim they were bending in user’s pockets. The Samsung (News - Alert) Galaxy S4 also had reports of bending when stressed in the right way. Blackberry’s Q10 had similar reports as well.
It’s been a tough week for Apple, which also rolled out an update to its new operating system, but iOS 8.0.1 reportedly caused most iPhone 6’s to lose cellular and WiFi (News - Alert) connectivity. iOS 8.0.1 was supposed to fix a glitch causing severe problems with its new HealthKit software. On Thursday night, The Cupertino-based company issued iOS 8.0.2, designed to fix the connectivity issues and also broke its silence regarding the potential bending of the newest iPhone cases.
Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller sent an email to various news outlets claiming that a bend in the iPhone 6 was “extremely rare.” The company said the Internet rumors had greatly inflated the severity of this problem and that there was a grand total of nine customers to have actually contact apple about a bent iPhone 6 Plus.
