Don't Have a Hissy, Taking Selfies is Now Easy

‘Selfie’ is a word that a decade ago, no one would have understood. But today its so common place that it’s even been added to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.  It refers to the use of one’s gadget, usually a mobile device, to take a photo of themselves or others, using an out stretched arm.

While many people have gone to extremes - like Kim Kardashian who is admittedly obsessed with taking selfies and even put together a photo book for her husband Kanye West - the truth is getting a photo just right when you can’t really see what you’re actually capturing, or find your finger to the exact button you need to press to take the picture – can make the process pretty frustrating.

These usually comical selfies end up with half a forehead in the picture, or worse, as many memes and dedicated Tumblr pages have pointed out. My favorite being the surprise reflection of yourself in an awkward position when you didn’t realize your front facing camera was on. Scary stuff.

On a recent trip to Niagara Falls this summer, I encountered another selfie-related problem. My boyfriend and I don’t like bothering others around us to take photos while they are trying to enjoy the moment with their own group. And, we both have pricey phones we wouldn’t just hand over to a stranger. So we found ourselves struggling to get both of our faces quickly captured along with the background without creating attention. And the photos ended up just like the meme’s say:  half a forehead, awkward face, and barely a good view of the background.

Hisy is a new product that is changing that with a remote device it says will let you take the perfect, blur-free selfies and videos.

When I had a chance to test this out, I jumped at the opportunity to get better at my ‘selfie game.’

The item was much smaller than I imagined it to be when it arrived. And this is a good thing because it can easily fit in the palm of your hand without having to be visible. Its also light weight and easy to carry along in your pocket.

The device was also surprisingly super easy to use and get started with. It didn’t require any special app to be downloaded or purchased. The only thing I had to do was pair the device using my phone’s Bluetooth.

As soon as it was paired and opened my camera function, I was immediately able to just use the snap button in my hand to take photos from all distances and angles, with ease. Hisy makes it possible to take selfies, group shots and action shots from up to 90 feet away. Without much change in the typical way I would take a selfie, I was able to grab much more of the background and much more of the entire person than just some of the face.

What’s also nice is that it comes with a stand, and I would assume this or using a tripod of some sort, could be a perfect combination for capturing some of the upcoming family holiday photos that always seem to be missing at least 1 person who has to take the actual picture.

The device is available for purchase at http://hisypix.com for $24.99, and if you can wait the 3-5 business days out – it also has free shipping.

It is compatible with Apple iOS 7.0 or later for iPhone (News - Alert) 4S, 5, 5S, 5C, iPad 3rd & 4th Generation, iPad Mini & iPad Air, iPod Touch 5th Generation or Later.

The company is also catering to Android (News - Alert) users with a different device called HALO that works in the same fashion.

(Spoiler alert to my friends & family)
With the upcoming holidays and so many people today taking selfies, this is a great gift option or stocking stuffer.
