Every day we are seeing that more things are having the capacity to communicate with a large variety of other objects. Cars have sensors that can practically make them drive themselves without anyone actually behind the wheel. Monitoring devices can ensure a patient’s health and well-being because they can communicate and share data with all the necessary resources.

Your home is no exception, as we are very near to having that home of the future. The combination of M2M technology, along with some creative mobile apps gives you the ability to control lights, temperature, alarms plus much more. This has not gone unnoticed by Samsung (News - Alert). This week it was announced that the company is set to acquire SmartThings, a company that makes technology for connecting household items.

We know LinkedIn (News - Alert) as the business oriented social network service. Newsle is a company that was founded with the goal of delivering important news about the people who matter to you. The word this week is that these two companies have joined forces. It is not surprising when you consider that they share the common goal of providing professional insights designed to make someone better at what they do.

Vidyo, Inc. is a privately held, venture funded company that provides both software-based technology and product-based visual communication solutions. The company’s VidyoConferencing solutions are the first in the videoconferencing industry to take advantage of the most recent enhancement to the H.264 standard for video compression, Scalable Video Coding (SVC). Recently the company completed a new round of funding which brought in $20 million.

Another company that recently completed a funding round was able to raise $50 million. The Series E funding went to a company called NewVoiceMedia. This British company delivers cloud contact center solutions. What makes this company appealing is that they provide a similar service as Google (News - Alert) but at a fraction of the cost.

Have you ever wanted to bid on a work of art from one of the great masters only to find that you were not invited to that auction being held at Sotheby’s? If you are used to checking out eBay (News - Alert) to make most of your pre-owned purchases and face it, what falls more under the category of “pre-owned” if not a classical work from one of the masters, you may now have that option. Sotheby and eBay have teamed up.

Every day companies all over the world make deals, raise funds and form partnerships. We try to keep an eye on these Wheelings & Dealings. Whether it is an acquisition or a joint partnership that benefits several companies, we will keep you apprised of all of the important details.
