Ever since iOS 8 was announced, people have been trying to figure out just what was included in the new operating system. Apple (News - Alert) let one particular feature slip called City Tours. One of the keynote slides that was used when the operating system was being officially unveiled showed the new feature. The feature isn’t being allowed when it comes to betas, but developer Pierre Blazquez has unlocked it through a hidden debug screen.

Thanks to that unlocking, we are now able to see what City Tours has to offer. What we’ve now seen is that the program is something along the lines of a guided-camera Flyover view. Once users have activated the tour, the Maps application changes to its satellite mode. The camera then starts zooming and panning to a ton of different landmarks in the city.

There are only a couple of supported cities in the beta, but it seems likely that Apple will be adding more cities as we move closer to the actual launch of iOS 8. At the moment, the cities that are included in the application are Rome, Stockholm, Barcelona, New York, Paris, Glasgow, Cape Town, Perth, Bordeaux and San Francisco.

This application might not be something that will get people fired up about, but it does seem interesting enough that lots of people might take it out for a spin. This is the latest application that is drawing attention from developers as the betas for iOS 8 start to show up.

HealthKit is another one of these applications that has drawn quite a bit of interest, without people knowing exactly what the application is going to offer. Much like HealthKit, it seems likely that the version of City Tours that is being offered up in the betas will change once the operating system goes live later this fall.
