Legos have been around longer than any consumer gadget currently on the market. Now the long time popular toy and the smartphone are teaming up on a new product termed Lego Fusion. The line is set to launch in August and will have some 200 bricks and a special plate that any creations should be built on. The buildings on the plate can be photographed with either the iPhone or Android (News - Alert) phones or tablets. The picture can then be imported into free downloadable games.

There are already several Lego themed games available on Android and iOS application stores, but this is the first time that Lego has blended its real life creations with the digital world. The blending of this particular set of toys with the iPhone (News - Alert) is more than just trying to come up with something new. Lego knows that there is a move from physical toys to the digital world.

One of the new games, called Lego Fusion Town Master allows kids to build house facades on the plates and import them into the mobile device. The game then turns the creation into a house that is in a small town and lived in by Lego figures. “Battle Towers” has children build a medieval-style tower and then defend it against flying monsters.

“Create & Race” allows children to build cars and race them on a digital track. The designs will allow for different cars that differ in speed, durability and handling. This September, Lego is coming with a “Resort Designer” that has the style of the girl-oriented “Friends” line. All of the games are designed to force the children to go back to physical toys.  By using the physical toys, the children are rewarded by seeing their creations brought to life in the virtual world.

This is hardly the first time that Lego has teamed up with technology. Lego Mindstorm has long been a toy that has taken some aspects of the digital world, but this is the first time the toys have gone inside the digital world like this.
