Several years ago, fans of YouTube (News - Alert) were discovering that the music videos they enjoyed were steadily becoming hosted by a company known as Vevo. Over the years, Vevo has taken the music video world by storm. Today, when a person goes to YouTube to watch a music video, it is almost a sure thing that it is being hosted by Vevo.

Vevo is only growing, gathering billions of viewers and in the last year the music video platform witnessed a nearly 50 percent increase in its viewership per month. Vevo’s President and CEO, Rio Caraeff (News - Alert), reported this week that Vevo’s numbers hit 6 billion views this past December, a 46 percent increase for the company.

"On a global stage, it's really all about mobile," Caraeff said. "Mobile and tablet and television are where the majority of the views are happening."

How many of those views are coming in from the mobile world? The company has reported that 65 percent of those 6 billion were through mobile devices. This is a massive proportion, caused by the proliferation of mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and smart-TVs.

American viewers are definitely leading the pack, with 1 billion of the views coming from the United States, but the fact that the other 5 billion are coming from the 13 countries where Vevo’s service has expanded shows that the company is truly growing as a global force. The UK and Germany are the two countries that Vevo seems most popular, while plans are underway to expand to Mexico.

It isn’t too surprising that Vevo has become such a success, being that the company was started in 2009 in a joint-venture between Universal Music Group (News - Alert) and Sony Music Entertainment, two of the three largest record labels companies. Google also holds a stake in the company. With such powerful hitters backing the platform, Vevo has access to thousands of music videos, while being connected to Google’s (News - Alert) powerful search tools and video service YouTube.

These videos aren’t just found on YouTube though; Vevo has its own website where all their videos can be found. The company’s videos have been hosted on Yahoo Music since 2012, and there have been talks of furthering the relationship between Yahoo and Vevo. Vevo has also had a strong relationship with AOL (News - Alert) since the start.

With these applause-worthy numbers, Vevo has also been working on a campaign to draw in more investors. Exactly who they are courting has been kept private, though the Wall Street Journal has reported that talks were held between Vevo and Guggenheim Partners, a financial services company.
