When it comes to purchasing a mobile in-home speaker system, it really comes down to what kind of product you prefer. Bluetooth speakers have become the norm over the last few years but they aren’t the only product on the market. There are systems that are set up so that music can be played anywhere in the home from one device. There are also some that are geared towards covering less ground but making sure that the sound coming out of the speakers is top notch. The Aether Cone is one of those devices that is looking for less coverage and better overall sound.

On top of the great sound, the Cone sets itself apart because it’s being billed as a “thinking music player” that is supposed to learn what users like and then plays songs along those same lines.

"The world is filled with new devices that do amazing things, yet the more you own, the harder you have to work to connect, manage and troubleshoot them," said Duncan Lamb, co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Aether in a recent release announcing the product. "At Aether, we decided to make products and experiences that work harder so you don't have to. Our ultimate goal is simple -- to make everyday life nicer through beautifully thought-out products."

The Aether Cone is said to make music simple because there is really only one command. Take the Cone out of the box, turn the dial and music of the highest quality pours forth. Turn the dial again and you can change the tune or even go to a great podcast.

This isn’t exactly a Bluetooth speaker, because it doesn’t need to sync up with any other device. The programming and music stations come installed on the device. That means you don’t have to have a smartphone or tablet set up to stream the music to the cone. The device still has all the portability of the best Bluetooth speakers, meaning you can take it into any room and play music, podcasts and Internet radio stations you love.

The Cone will be available for purchase later in the spring and carries an MSRP of $399.
