Evernote has long been an application and Web service that users all over the globe have leaned heavily on when it comes to taking and keeping notes, passwords and anything else they can think to put into the app. One of the reasons Evernote (News - Alert) has become so popular is because it can be used on almost any device, and anything new that is added on a smartphone application will sync and display on anything else running the service.
Recently the company announced that it has actually upgraded its Evernote Sync service so that it is four times faster than it was before. The company divulged this information on a recent blog post that pointed out that the speed change comes thanks to several changes that have been made to the service.
Even better news for people who want to make sure they have their most important information handy is that the company has made some tweaks to its servers. In the blog post, CEO Phil Libin laid out that there are some important requirements the company has identified when it comes to meeting the needs of its customers. Evernote says that there were no significant disruptions while the speed enhancements were being made.
The CEO also said that when the upgrades went live, it needed to be obvious that the changes were for the better. It appears that the firm has accomplished its goals in the revamp. In the blog post, Libin said that, “First, our Service team completely re-engineered the way that Evernote synchronizes your notes. After that, we migrated every single note, resource and bit of metadata onto the new sync platform. We also upgraded the hardware on some of our older servers. Then we tested. And tested. And tested some more.”
When all the tests turned out to be positive, the company flipped the switch to “on” and the sync service is now four times faster than it was before. That’s good news for the company itself and those that rely on it.
