What if it were possible to save on long distance calls by playing a game? That’s what the folks at TalkZilla have made possible through the company’s iPhone and Android (News - Alert) VoIP calling app.
Touted as being reliable and easy to use, this app does more than just allow you to make long distance VoIP calls via your mobile device. Each caller gets a “Talkzilla” to grow and take care of, much like the addictive Tamagotchi toys from back when. All you have to do is feed your Talkzilla cookies, watch it grow and save.
Once you start, the app will give you five cookies and 10 eggs to get you going. To obtain more cookies for your virtual pet, just start making some calls. For every $1 you spend on a phone call, you’ll receive 10 cookies. You’ll need these to feed your hungry monster through its various stages: baby, junior, teen, adult and monster.
To get your first discount, you’ll have to get that baby to the junior stage, which will run you 250 cookies. That’s when the discounts start happening. According to TruTower, at the junior level, you’ll receive a 10 percent discount. After 600 cookies, you’ll get to teen status and your discount increases to 15 percent.
Eggs don’t really have much to do with feeding or growing your own Talkzilla. Those are used in a referral rewards program by which you invite friends. Once said friend downloads the app and makes that first call, you get $2 plus 30 cookies for your pet.
“We worked to create a simple VoIP app that not only offers the lowest calling rates available, but also incorporates a completely unique and fun spin,” states Thomas Knobel, chairman and CEO of Talkzilla, in a statement.
The potential power of game-based applications and ventures has been magnified by the convergence of Generation Y and the saturation of the digital space. Companies that wish to stand out can get ahead by making their products fun and rewarding, as Talkzilla has done with VoIP calls.
“We really want this app to become the most affordable tool for making calls all around the world. That’s why we are constantly striving to keep our calling rates from 30 up to 50 percent lower than our main competitors. Unlike other companies, our background of 15 years in the telecom industry means we have the appropriate systems to offer really low rates and an excellent sound quality,” said Knobel.
