“I Scream, You Scream…” Uh, Not Any More

While a large portion of the country swelters under a heat wave (Get a grip; it’s July), one savvy company has set the return of its popular app just in the nick of time. Uber has announced that its on-demand ice cream trucks will return today, July 19, both in the U.S. and abroad. Residents will be able to use the Uber app to summon an ice cream truck by looking for the "Ice Cream" icon within the app to see if a truck is nearby. "Demand for ice cream trucks will be very high and availability very limited," Uber said in a blog post. "It may take multiple tries to find an available truck. Please be patient! We'll be working all day to deliver as much ice cream as possible." But such convenience doesn’t come cheap. In New York, for example, the company is teaming up with Mister Softee and Van Leeuwen, which will deliver six frozen treats for $30. Still, it beats schlepping out into the heat, squinting into the sun and looking in vain for the truck, right?

Oh, Yeah, It’s All APPLE’s Fault

From the “You can’t make this stuff up” file: A Tennessee man has filed suit against Apple (News - Alert) computer, alleging that the firm’s Apple store employees should have let him know that pr0n was widely available on the Internet. The complainant alleges he “made a few mistakes” trying to get into Facebook (News - Alert) via the Safari browser in his new Macbook Pro. He instead reportedly “accidentally” typed in another word that begins with an “F” and, according to the complaint was taken to a site that “blatantly appealed to his biological sensibilities as a male.” He then reportedly got hooked on what he saw, and got so addicted that his wife left him, and became so depressed he can’t work anymore. Must be hard. (Sorry, couldn’t resist….)

What’s in a Name?

The term “Google (News - Alert) Glass” has become ubiquitous in the industry, but did you ever wonder what names the company pondered before settling on the spoken term “OK Glass” to activate the software? Yeah, us neither, but PC Mag reports that Glass Marketing Director Amanda Rosenberg had quite a few ideas, actually. Included on the list were: “Listen up, Glass”; “Hear me now”; “Go Go Glass”; “Device, Please”; and our favorite of the bunch, “Pew (News - Alert) Pew Pew.” Go HERE to see full list. That last one reminds us of a great scene in the film, “Dinner for Schmucks.”

“I’ll Be Bock!”

Is Apple coming out with a new phone built with “Terminator”-like materials? A patent issued this week may signal that Apple is getting closer to using a super-strong alloy to build its iPhone (News - Alert) and other devices. The LA Times reports that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued a patent for "bulk amorphous alloy sheet forming processes" to Crucible Intellectual Property. That company is a subsidiary of Liquidmetal Technologies, which teamed up with Apple a few years back to develop its trademarked Liquidmetal alloy material for Apple’s technologies. Liquidmetal is reportedly extremely tough, resisting dents and scratches. And for all you Fanbois (and gurlz) out there, no, it doesn’t liquify and then re-form. Sorry.
