As smartphones, tablets, laptops and even desktop computers are being continuously revamped to power additional capabilities users are in search of, I am sure that somebody somewhere halfway around the world has long been thinking about creating a tablet that boasts an eye tracking function.

Well, you know the saying, “You snooze you lose?” Those of you out there with the original idea won’t be highlighted as the product’s inventor since SensoMetric Instruments GmbH (SMI) and Tablet Kiosk have partnered in order to officially debut Sahara EyeSlate.

Classified as both an augmentative and alternative communication device (AAC), the tablet PC runs Windows 7 and Windows 8 with a slight twist—every capability can be controlled via the movement of your eyes, touch, voice or even handwriting recognition. Can you imagine how many others tasks you can complete now that everything you’re doing on your gadget is completely hands-free? The possibilities are truly endless.

“We are excited to partner with SMI to announce the Sahara EyeSlateTablet PC with eye tracking technology,” said Martin Smekal, president and CEO of TabletKiosk, in a statement. “As a specialty hardware manufacturer, TabletKiosk strives to align itself with cutting edge technology partners like SMI to jointly create customized and purpose-based hardware computing solutions.

To see firsthand how the next-generation gadget operates, see the video below:

While it looks strikingly similar to every other tablet currently on the market, the product is ideal for busy employees trying to be as productive as possible, no matter if they are within the office or on-the-go. Other factors such as eye color, age and if the individual wears glasses or contacts makes no difference either in terms of successfulness of the offering. For once and for all, say goodbye to your mouse and keyboard (unless you like them of course) and turn your head to control your device with ease, without even breaking a sweat.

While the jury is still out on how great Sahara EyeSlate actually performs, something we can all agree on is that any product that makes our lives simpler is well warranted. If enterprises do in fact start to flock to this gadget, one can only imagine how it can utilized to raise the bar significantly on the efficiency of operations overall.

Christian Villwock, director of SMI´s OEM Solutions Business, added, “The use of eye tracking technology is gaining momentum in many application fields ranging from AAC, gaming and medical screening to gaze interaction in other industry and prosumer applications. We are proud to work with TabletKiosk and are convinced that this new all-in-one tablet PC provides tremendous customer value in many of these fields.”
